POWER STEERING PUMPS FOR THE 70 SERIES
WHEN THE WHEEL GOES HEAVY AND THE PUMP WHINES
Power steering pumps on a 70 Series have a finite life. After years of running pressurised fluid through worn vanes and seals, the pump starts whining, the steering wheel goes heavy at parking speeds, and eventually fluid starts weeping from the pump body. Replacement is straightforward and restores normal steering effort immediately. For a vehicle that weighs three tonnes empty and is regularly loaded heavier than that, light steering at low speeds is not a luxury. It is the difference between manoeuvring a caravan in a tight campsite easily versus fighting the wheel.
OEM-SPEC PUMP ASSEMBLIES WITH NEW SEALS
Each pump in this collection is supplied as a complete remanufactured or new assembly with fresh seals, new vanes, and a tested housing. The flow rate and pressure output match the original Toyota specifications, so the steering assist feels exactly as it should after fitment. Pulley fitment is precise to the factory drive belt arrangement, with no risk of belt alignment issues. Fluid line connections are standard fittings that screw into the pump body. Reservoir and hose assemblies are typically reused from the original setup but should be checked for cracks or leaks during the replacement job.
ENGINE-SPECIFIC PUMP FITMENT
Power steering pumps are matched to the specific engine because the drive pulley size and mounting bracket position differs. The 1HZ in the HZJ75 to HZJ79 (1990 to 2007) uses one specification. The 1FZ-FE petrol uses another. The 1HD-FTE turbo diesel uses a third. The 1VD-FTV V8 from 2007 onwards uses its own specification. Each listing confirms exact engine code, body style, and year range before you order. Many pumps also fit the 80 and 100 Series where the same engine was used in a different body.
