79 SERIES LAND CRUISER EXHAUSTS

WHY UPGRADE YOUR 79 SERIES EXHAUST

The search for a 79 Series exhaust upgrade usually starts in the same place: a factory system built to a noise standard, not a performance one. Restrictive piping and undersized muffler internals push exhaust gas temperatures higher than they need to be under load. A quality aftermarket 79 Series Land Cruiser exhaust opens the system up with larger bore piping, free-flowing mandrel bends and less restrictive mufflers. The V8 or 2.8L responds with sharper throttle response, lower EGTs and a deeper, purposeful note. The difference is most noticeable when towing or working the engine up long climbs.

TURBO-BACK, CAT-BACK AND DPF-BACK SYSTEMS

The range is built from 409-grade stainless steel, the standard for performance exhausts in Australia because it survives the outback dust and coastal humidity that eat mild steel in a season or two. A turbo-back exhaust replaces the full path from the turbo flange back and delivers the biggest gains on pre-DPF V8s. Cat-back and DPF-back systems replace everything behind the catalytic converter or particulate filter, a simpler install and the road-legal option where the DPF must remain in place. Dump pipes, engine pipes and DPF adaptor kits round out the catalogue, and most systems bolt on using factory hangers and OEM-spec gaskets.

PRE-2016 V8, DPF ERA AND 2.8L FACELIFT FITMENT

Fitment splits by era. The pre-DPF VDJ79 V8 (2007 to 2016) has the widest choice, including straight-through 3 inch and 3.5 inch turbo-back systems. The DPF-era V8 (2016 to 2023) needs a DPF-back or DPF-compatible system to stay road legal. The GDJ79 2.8L facelift (2024 onward) runs its own DPF-compatible bore, and the earlier HZJ79 1HZ uses a 2.5 inch system. Single cab and dual cab body styles use different rear sections, so each listing confirms engine code, year, cab style and diameter. Most systems carry up to ten-year warranties and are built for loaded Australian touring and towing.
