RAISE THE 79 GEAR STICK TO A NATURAL ARM POSITION
NO MORE REACHING DOWN FOR EVERY SHIFT
The factory gear stick in a 79 V8 manual sits noticeably low. Fine when the ute was new, but once you have raised the seat for visibility, lifted the suspension, or just spent a few hours on the highway, the awkward reach down for every shift starts to wear on your shoulder. A gear stick extension lifts the lever 30 to 100mm depending on the option you choose, bringing the knob up to a natural arm position. The gear changes get smoother, your arm fatigue drops, and the cabin feels sized for actual humans rather than designed-by-spreadsheet.
CNC MACHINED 6061 ALUMINIUM, BLACK ANODISED
Each extension is CNC machined from 6061 aluminium with a black anodised finish that matches the factory shifter stalk. The thread is M12x1.25, the same on the factory shaft and on the gear knob. So the extension threads onto the shaft, and your existing knob threads back onto the extension. Total install time is about two minutes with no tools. Sold individually so you can extend the main shifter, the transfer case lever, or both depending on your preference. Different lengths suit different setups. Taller drivers and lifted utes generally favour the longer 80 to 100mm options.
SUITS THE FULL MANUAL 70 SERIES RANGE
These extensions fit the manual 79 single cab and dual cab, plus the 76 Wagon and 78 Troopy that share the same shifter geometry. They also suit the 60, 80, and 100 Series manuals because the thread pattern carries across decades of Toyota gearboxes. The only fitment check is dash clearance. Adding height to your gear stick can affect how the lever clears the dash in first gear on some setups, so it pays to confirm clearance before choosing the longest options.
